Clean your running shoes by hand

The first thing to do is to tap your shoes together right after your running training. This will remove the more substantial, like dried mud and gravel stuck under the shoe.
Nothing replaces a good hand wash, which is the only way not to brutalize your shoes and not to damage them. This may seem restrictive and rather long, but it is the ultimate in washing.

With hand washing, it is almost impossible to degrade the fabrics, the insole, or the mesh of the shoe. Indeed, their manufacture is done in more and more sophisticated materials, and their washing has become more and more delicate. Spins and spins in the drum of a machine are prohibited: never use your washing machine to clean your shoes!

Buy a brush with very soft bristles, soak it with mild soap such as Marseille soap, wet it with a little hot water and voila!
For narrow and complicated spaces, opt for an old toothbrush with soft bristles.
For effective cleaning, the insole, which is inside the shoe, should be washed and dried separately.

How to choose running shoes according to the terrain on which we run!

Another very personal point because it depends on where we live. Ideally, we would like to avoid running on bitumen as much as possible because it is traumatic for the body. A softer floor is much more suitable ( see my video on the subject here ). The advantage is that if you can run mostly on paths, you can have a shoe where the cushioning is a little less present. The ground will absorb much of the impact and protect us from injury.

For city dwellers like me who are not so lucky, jogging and long outings with a shoe with a reasonable amount of cushioning is undoubtedly a good idea. This is not the opinion of pro minimalism, but again it is another subject!

What are the risks of running with used shoes?

After several months of more or less intensive use, running shoes lose their primary qualities and fulfill their protective role less and less.
Shock absorption becomes less effective, which affects your joints; cushioning becomes drier; shoes can become unstable and create imbalances.

The risks of contracting pain or injury are then increased. Joint pain, tendon pain, periostitis, … many pathologies that are found in runners and which could sometimes be avoided simply by changing shoes at the right time.
