Clean your running shoes by hand

The first thing to do is to tap your shoes together right after your running training. This will remove the more substantial, like dried mud and gravel stuck under the shoe.
Nothing replaces a good hand wash, which is the only way not to brutalize your shoes and not to damage them. This may seem restrictive and rather long, but it is the ultimate in washing.

With hand washing, it is almost impossible to degrade the fabrics, the insole, or the mesh of the shoe. Indeed, their manufacture is done in more and more sophisticated materials, and their washing has become more and more delicate. Spins and spins in the drum of a machine are prohibited: never use your washing machine to clean your shoes!

Buy a brush with very soft bristles, soak it with mild soap such as Marseille soap, wet it with a little hot water and voila!
For narrow and complicated spaces, opt for an old toothbrush with soft bristles.
For effective cleaning, the insole, which is inside the shoe, should be washed and dried separately.

How to choose a running shoe: comfort above all!

When you ask yourself the question of how to choose running shoes the only answer that we should find in priority is, therefore: a comfortable shoe! I’m not necessarily talking about the amount of cushioning of the pump or its drop or any other technical point. No, I’m talking about the footwear. When you put on a pair of running shoes, you should immediately be comfortable, feeling that your foot will adapt well to the shoe.

Not so easy. But if you feel discomfort, that the foot is not placed as it would like in the footwear, it may increase with the race! If you doubt trying it, don’t buy it! And if you purchased online, no problem, you usually have plenty of time to return it. Better to waste a little time and choose your running shoes than to run with an uncomfortable shoe

When should you replace your running shoes?

You will have certainly noticed it, some models of shoes are more robust than others. Therefore, it seems complicated to establish a universal rule which would apply to all brands. One certainty, running shoes do not last forever.

Stay tuned to your body, and do not hesitate to change them at the slightest alert. Unusual pain is often a sure sign.
If you are a “heavy” runner, you will most likely need to change your shoes faster than a “light” runner.
If you can, count the kilometers traveled with each model you own. Strava, Garmin Connect, and many other applications offer to create a list of your equipment to facilitate this monitoring by associating them with your activities.

Pay attention to the visible signs of wear: outsole, mesh, reinforcements. They are generally good indicators of the condition of your shoes.
One last thing, the lighter the shoes, the faster it will be necessary to change them (500 to 600 km). But depending on the model, your weight, and the use you make of it, they can still take you much further (from 800 to 1000 km).
